Back when basketball was just basketball and not a bunch of fake players arguing about who was the best. Not like basketball today where they cry about their money and bs that has nothing to do with basketball.

My grandfather who recently passed away lived in Terhune. I spent a huge part of my childhood in that tiny plot of land. The mill doesn’t exist anymore but the building with the store still does, it’s just apartments now. The railroad is gone, but this few seconds is like a Time Machine to me. This is so cool

Worst coaching nonsensical advice from Shooter but who cares? Its great because Shooter redeems himself.

I’m not a basketball fan I’m 60 years old. My brother-in-law was a basketball coach so the first time I saw Hoosiers it was like this is the best movie ever made in sports.❤

That little white church was right down the pittsboro lebanon road from where i grew up. Some assholes torched it not long after this was released. One of the scenes was shot in the old Brownsburg HS gym...the little blonde kid is the youngest son of one of my dads old HS buddies Mickey Schenck (rip)

I'm not sure what was coach Dale's more impressive feat: transforming a rag-tag group of farm boys into state champions or transforming stark-raving b*tch Myra Fleener into a tolerable human being.

The interesting thing is that I lived in Indiana in the 1980s and early 90s and it still felt like the 1950s.

The images remind me of rural SW Minnesota, where I spent the first 18 years of my life. I moved away after high school, a lifetime ago. This takes me back in time. Wonderful opening scene.

I love the moment where Jimmy strolls in and hands his ball to Ollie. It’s a moment that’s both wholesome and alpha at the same time. While Jimmy is generally depicted as a mellow, low-octane, even-tempered individual, he knew full well the influence he had on both that basketball program and the town as a whole. I also like how effectively Jimmy handled his grief. He listened to his adult mentors and took time off basketball to handle his loss as needed, but kept his skills sharp and was ready to go once he recovered and got his competitive mojo back.

Jesus, Hackman’s monologue…the way those words fall out of his mouth. They could have been so obvious, so overdone by another actor. You almost don’t realize he’s even done it.

"Actually coach, the goals back in Hickory are less than ten feet. Feller who put 'em up accidentally got hold o' one of them measurin' tapes with that new-fangled metric system on it. Thought he was measurin' feet but it was somethin' else. We just kep 'em that way 'cause it made it easier to shoot and it woulda cost too much to fix 'em anyway." "Oh, wow. Now THAT may be a problem!"

At the 1.32 mark of the video, the game announcer states "that the game is tied with 17 fateful seconds to go in the game". You look up at the clock in the corner and there are 19 seconds left, tied 40-40. Hmmm ???
